בר תמניא שנין יאשיהו כד מלך ותלתין וחדא שנין מלך בירושלם:
byrwshlm mlk shnyn wkhda wthlthyn mlk kd yashyhw shnyn thmnya br
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

ועבד דכשר קדם יי ואזל באורחא דדוד אבוהי ולא סטא לימינא ולשמאלא:
wlshmala lymyna sTa wla abwhy ddwd bawrkha wazl yy qdm dkshr webd
He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.

ובתמניא שנין כד מלך והוא עד כדון טלי שרי למתבע אולפן מן קדם יי אלהא דדויד אבוהי ומתריסר שנין שרי לדכאה ית יהודה וירושלם מן במתיא ואשירתא וצלמניא ומתכיא :
wmthkya wtslmnya washyrtha bmthya mn wyrwshlm yhwdh yth ldkah shry shnyn wmthrysr abwhy ddwyd alha yy qdm mn awlpn lmthbe shry Tly kdwn ed whwa mlk kd shnyn wbthmnya
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, the Asherah poles, the engraved images, and the molten images.

ותרעו קדמוי ית אגורי טעותא וחמסנסיא די לעיל מעלויהון קטע ואשיריא וצלמניא ומתכתא תבר ואודיק וזרק על אפי קבריא דדבחין להון:
lhwn ddbkhyn qbrya apy el wzrq wawdyq thbr wmthktha wtslmnya washyrya qTe melwyhwn leyl dy wkhmsnsya Tewtha agwry yth qdmwy wthrew
They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and he cut down the incense altars that were on high above them. He broke the Asherah poles, the engraved images, and the molten images in pieces, made dust of them, and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

וגרמי כומריא אוקיד על אגוריהון ודכי ית יהודה וית ירושלם:
yrwshlm wyth yhwdh yth wdky agwryhwn el awqyd kwmrya wgrmy
He burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.

ובקרוי דבית מנשה ודבית אפרים ודבית שמעון ועד דבית נפתלי בבית צדיותהון חזור חזור:
khzwr khzwr tsdywthhwn bbyth npthly dbyth wed shmewn wdbyth aprym wdbyth mnshh dbyth wbqrwy
He did this in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.

ותרע ית אגוריא וית אשיריא וצלמניא דאדק לאדקא וכל חמסנסיא קטע בכל ארעא דישראל ויתב בירושלם:
byrwshlm wythb dyshral area bkl qTe khmsnsya wkl ladqa dadq wtslmnya ashyrya wyth agwrya yth wthre
He broke down the altars, beat the Asherah poles and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, then returned to Jerusalem.

ובשתא תמניסרי כד מלך בדכאותיה ית ארעא ובית מקדשא שדר ית שפן בר אצליהו וית מעשיהו ארכון קרתא וית יואח בר יואחז די ממנא על ספר דוכרניא לתקפא ית בית מקדשא דיי אלהיה:
alhyh dyy mqdsha byth yth lthqpa dwkrnya spr el mmna dy ywakhz br ywakh wyth qrtha arkwn meshyhw wyth atslyhw br shpn yth shdr mqdsha wbyth area yth bdkawthyh mlk kd thmnysry wbshtha
Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder to repair the house of Yahweh his God.

ואתו לות חלקיהו כהנא רבא ויהבו ית סימא דמתעל לבית מקדשא דיי דכנשו ליואי נטרי פלטין מן ידיהון דבית מנשה ואפרים ומן שארא דבית ישראל ומן כל אנש יהודה ובנימין ויתבי ירושלם:
yrwshlm wythby wbnymyn yhwdh ansh kl wmn yshral dbyth shara wmn waprym mnshh dbyth ydyhwn mn plTyn nTry lyway dknshw dyy mqdsha lbyth dmthel syma yth wyhbw rba khna khlqyhw lwth wathw
They came to Hilkiah the high priest and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered from the hands of Manasseh, Ephraim, of all the remnant of Israel, of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

ויהבו על יד עבד עבידתא וממנן בבית מקדשא דיי ויהבו יתיה עבדי עבדתא דאנון עבדין בבית מקדשא דיי לצרכיה לתקפא ביתא:
bytha lthqpa ltsrkyh dyy mqdsha bbyth ebdyn danwn ebdtha ebdy ythyh wyhbw dyy mqdsha bbyth wmmnn ebydtha ebd yd el wyhbw
They delivered it into the hands of the workmen who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and the workmen who labored in Yahweh’s house gave it to mend and repair the house.

ויהבו לנגריא ולארדכליא למזבן אבנין פסילן וקסין למעבד כשורין ללפא ולטללא ית ביתא דחבילו מלכיא דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth mlkya dkhbylw bytha yth wlTlla llpa kshwryn lmebd wqsyn psyln abnyn lmzbn wlardklya lngrya wyhbw
They gave it to the carpenters and to the builders to buy cut stone and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

וגובריא עבדין בהימנותא בעבידתא ועליהון ממנן יחת ועובדיהו ליואי מן בני מררי וזכריה ומשלם מן בני קהת לשבחא וליואי בכל דמליף בזיני תושבחתא:
thwshbkhtha bzyny dmlyp bkl wlyway lshbkha qhth bny mn wmshlm wzkryh mrry bny mn lyway wewbdyhw ykhth mmnn welyhwn bebydtha bhymnwtha ebdyn wgwbrya
The men did the work faithfully. Their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to give direction; and others of the Levites, who were all skillful with musical instruments.

ועל נטלי טוענא ומתגברין על כל עבדי עבוד רבא ולמפלח פולחנא ומן ליואי לבלרין ופורענין ותרעיא:
wthreya wpwrenyn lblryn lyway wmn pwlkhna wlmplkh rba ebwd ebdy kl el wmthgbryn Twena nTly wel
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and directed all who did the work in every kind of service. Of the Levites, there were scribes, officials, and gatekeepers.

וכד אפיקו ית סימא דמתעל בבית מקדשא דיי אפיק חלקיהו כהנא ית ספר אוריתא דיי דאתיהיבת בידא דמשה:
dmshh byda dathyhybth dyy awrytha spr yth khna khlqyhw apyq dyy mqdsha bbyth dmthel syma yth apyqw wkd
When they brought out the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house, Hilkiah the priest found the book of Yahweh’s law given by Moses.

ואתיב חלקיהו ואמר לשפן ספרא ספר אוריתא אשכחית בבית מקדשא דיי גנון ומלפף ויהב חלקיהו ית ספרא לות שפן:
shpn lwth spra yth khlqyhw wyhb wmlpp gnwn dyy mqdsha bbyth ashkkhyth awrytha spr spra lshpn wamr khlqyhw wathyb
Hilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” So Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

ואיתי שפן ית ספרא לות מלכא ואחזר תוב ית מלכא פתגמא למימר כל מא דאתיהב בידיהון דעבדך אינון עבדין:
ebdyn aynwn debdk bydyhwn dathyhb ma kl lmymr pthgma mlka yth thwb wakhzr mlka lwth spra yth shpn waythy
Shaphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, “All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

טקיסו ית סימא דאשתכח בבית מקדשא דיי ויהבוהי על ידיהון דלבלריא דעבדין בעבדתא:
bebdtha debdyn dlblrya ydyhwn el wyhbwhy dyy mqdsha bbyth dashthkkh syma yth Tqysw
They have emptied out the money that was found in Yahweh’s house, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and into the hand of the workmen.”

וחוי שפן לבלרא למלכא למימר ספרא יהב לי חלקיהו כהנא וקרא ביה שפן קדם מלכא:
mlka qdm shpn byh wqra khna khlqyhw ly yhb spra lmymr lmlka lblra shpn wkhwy
Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read from it to the king.

והוה כד שמע מלכא ית פתגמי ספר אוריתא ובזע ית לבושוי:
lbwshwy yth wbze awrytha spr pthgmy yth mlka shme kd whwh
When the king had heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.
20
ופקיד מלכא ית חלקיהו וית אחיקם בר שפן וית עבדון בר מיכה וית שפן לבלרא וית עשיה עבדא דמלכא למימר:
lmymr dmlka ebda eshyh wyth lblra shpn wyth mykh br ebdwn wyth shpn br akhyqm wyth khlqyhw yth mlka wpqyd
The king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

אזילו תבעו אולפן מן קדם יי אמטולתי ואמטול כל מלכותי ואמטול כל דאשתיר בישראל וביהודה מטול פתגמי ספרא דאשתכח ארום סגיעת רוגזא דיי די מטת בנא מן בגלל דלא נטרו אבהתנא ית פתגמא דיי למעבד הי ככל מה דכתיב על ספרא הדין:
hdyn spra el dkthyb mh kkl hy lmebd dyy pthgma yth abhthna nTrw dla bgll mn bna mTth dy dyy rwgza sgyeth arwm dashthkkh spra pthgmy mTwl wbyhwdh byshral dashthyr kl wamTwl mlkwthy kl wamTwl amTwlthy yy qdm mn awlpn thbew azylw
“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept Yahweh’s word, to do according to all that is written in this book.”

ואזל חלקיהו ודהוו עם מלכא לות חולדה נביאתא אתת שלום בר תקהת בר חסרה נטר לבושי מלכא והיא יתבה בירושלם בבית אולפנא ומלילו לותה כהדא:
khda lwthh wmlylw awlpna bbyth byrwshlm ythbh whya mlka lbwshy nTr khsrh br thqhth br shlwm athth nbyatha khwldh lwth mlka em wdhww khlqyhw wazl
So Hilkiah and those whom the king had commanded went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter), and they spoke to her to that effect.

ואמרת להון כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל אזילו אמרו לגברא דשדר יתכון לותי:
lwthy ythkwn dshdr lgbra amrw azylw dyshral alha yy amr kdnn lhwn wamrth
She said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel says: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

כדנן אמר יי הא אנא מיתי בשתא על אתרא הדין ועל יתבוהי ית כל קינומי לוטיא דכתיבין על ספרא די קרו קדם מליך שבטא דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlyk qdm qrw dy spra el dkthybyn lwTya qynwmy kl yth ythbwhy wel hdyn athra el bshtha mythy ana ha yy amr kdnn
“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

חלף די שבקו דחלתי ואסיקו בוסמין לטעות עממיא מן בגלל לארגזא קדמוי בכל עובדי ידיהון ומטת רוגזי באתרא הדין ולא עדת:
edth wla hdyn bathra rwgzy wmTth ydyhwn ewbdy bkl qdmwy largza bgll mn emmya lTewth bwsmyn wasyqw dkhlthy shbqw dy khlp
Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath is poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.’”’

ולות מליך שבטא דבית יהודה דשדר יתכון למתבע אולפן מן קדם יי כדנן תימרון ליה כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל פתגמיא די שמעתא:
shmetha dy pthgmya dyshral alha yy amr kdnn lyh thymrwn kdnn yy qdm mn awlpn lmthbe ythkwn dshdr yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlyk wlwth
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, you shall tell him this, ‘Yahweh, the God of Israel says: “About the words which you have heard,

בגלל דאתמסי לבבך ואתכנעתא מן קדם מימרא דיי כד שמעתא ית פתגמוי על אתרא הדין ועל יתבוהי ואתכנעתא מן קדמוי ובזעתא לבושך ובכיתא קדמי ואוף קדמי שמיע אמר יי:
yy amr shmye qdmy wawp qdmy wbkytha lbwshk wbzetha qdmwy mn wathknetha ythbwhy wel hdyn athra el pthgmwy yth shmetha kd dyy mymra qdm mn wathknetha lbbk dathmsy bgll
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.
28
הא אנא מכנש יתך לות אבהתך ותתכנש לבית קבורתך בשלם ולא תחמין עינך בכל בשתא די אנא מיתי על אתרא הדין ועל יתבוהי ואתיבו ית מלכא פתגמא:
pthgma mlka yth wathybw ythbwhy wel hdyn athra el mythy ana dy bshtha bkl eynk thkhmyn wla bshlm qbwrthk lbyth wththknsh abhthk lwth ythk mknsh ana ha
“Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes won’t see all the evil that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back this message to the king.

ושדר מלכא וכנש ית כל סבי יהודה וירושלם:
wyrwshlm yhwdh sby kl yth wknsh mlka wshdr
Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30
וסליק מלכא לבית מקדשא דיי וכל אנש יהודה ויתבי ירושלם וכהניא וליואי וכל עמא למן רבא ועד זעירא וקרא קדמיהון ית כל פתגמי ספרא דקימא דאשתכח בבית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha bbyth dashthkkh dqyma spra pthgmy kl yth qdmyhwn wqra zeyra wed rba lmn ema wkl wlyway wkhnya yrwshlm wythby yhwdh ansh wkl dyy mqdsha lbyth mlka wslyq
The king went up to Yahweh’s house with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests, the Levites, and all the people, both great and small—and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in Yahweh’s house.
31
וקם מלכא על אסטוניה וגזר ית קימא קדם יי למהך בתר דחלתא דיי ולמטר ית פקודוי וסהדותיה וקימוי בכל לבביה ובכל נפשיה למעבד ית פתגמי קימא די כתיבין על ספרא הדין:
hdyn spra el kthybyn dy qyma pthgmy yth lmebd npshyh wbkl lbbyh bkl wqymwy wshdwthyh pqwdwy yth wlmTr dyy dkhltha bthr lmhk yy qdm qyma yth wgzr asTwnyh el mlka wqm
The king stood in his place and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
32
ואקים ית כל דאשתכח בירושלם ובנימן ועבדו יתבי ירושלם הי כקימא דיי אלהא דאבהתהון:
dabhthhwn alha dyy kqyma hy yrwshlm ythby webdw wbnymn byrwshlm dashthkkh kl yth waqym
He caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand. The inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33
ועטר יאשיהו ית כל תועבתא מכל ארעתא דלבני ישראל ושעביד ית כל דאשתכח בישראל למפלח ית יי אלההון כל יומוי לא עדו מבתר פולחנא דיי אלהא דאבהתהון:
dabhthhwn alha dyy pwlkhna mbthr edw la ywmwy kl alhhwn yy yth lmplkh byshral dashthkkh kl yth wshebyd yshral dlbny aretha mkl thwebtha kl yth yashyhw weTr
Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that belonged to the children of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Yahweh their God. All his days they didn’t depart from following Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
